It's not exactly Ilya Raja or even the mesmerising beats that first made A R Rehman the phenom he is today.

Yet, if you are from the South of India, Kerala in particular, live in Dubai, consider yourself a Gen-Xer (at least) and are tired of the standard fare ‘desi’ club nights, then this throbbing beat is claiming itself as the sound of your underground scene.

DJ Dave Zohbaa is the man taking all the blame for mixing this hybrid of South Indian movie hits and the Western drum’n’bass sound – called Dravidian Massive Bass.

The population of youth in the UAE from the South Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh is huge, with Kerala dominating.
So what is currently being billed as an underground vibe could soon find itself mainstream.
