In a society obsessed with 'white skin', especially in the Sub-continent, of which UAE expatriates from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, form the majority, fairness is still the benchmark for beauty.

This dark obsession with a fair and glowing complexion has given rise to the 'Dark is Beautiful' campaign in India, of which actress Nandita Das, is the face.

Then there are several Bollywood actors who get lured by the fat cheques while endorsing fairness products, including the likes of John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Katrina Kaif who have promoted products that claim to help lighten skin tone.

But actor Kangana Ranaut, who is busking in glory in the success of her latest movie 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', knows how to say no.

This actress has refused to endorse a fairness cream brand as she does not believe in the idea of fairness.

"While actors make crores of rupees promoting products, Kangana refused to be a part of the bandwagon," reported ScoopWhoop. The actor was offered Rs 2 crore for the ad.

But money does not matter in front of principles.

"Ever since I was a kid, I have never understood the concept of fairness. Especially, in such a case, as a celebrity, what kind of an example would I be setting for younger people? I have no regrets about turning this offer down. As a public figure, I have responsibilities," Kangana had told The Hindustan Times in an interview.
