A Khap panchayat (village council) in Uttar Pradesh, India, is said to have announced that they will give 51 buffaloes to anyone who beheads film director Vinod Kapri.

Journalist-turned-director of forthcoming political satire 'Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho', is now seeking police protection.

He has also received death threats from a Khap panchayat.

'Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho' is said to be based on true incidents.

The film narrates the story of a man who is falsely accused of molesting a buffalo, Miss Tanakpur, by a village strongman who persuades the Khap panchayat to pass a verdict that he has to marry the victim.

The film has generated considerable buzz since the launch of its trailer with Amitabh Bachchan and Rajkumar Hirani saying how entertained they were with the film, which has Hrishita Bhatt, Rahul Bagga, Om Puri, Sanjay Mishra and Annu Kapoor in pivotal roles.

After the death threat Kapri said in a statement that he is little shocked and worried.

He is at the same time relieved that what he wanted to show through his film has already been proven by such threats.

He is more worried for his family.
