Adrianne Lewis, an 18-year-old from Twin Lakes, Michigan has got a bit of an unusual gift.

That being her four-inch-long tongue.

Twitter

She is globally recognised after a photo of her sticking her tongue out went viral, her serpent-like appendage can touch her nose, chin, elbow, and even her eye with a little help.

Lewis believes she has the longest tongue in the world, and was in Ripley’s Believe It Or Not at the age of 13 to show it off.

She's now trying to get in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Lewis said she’s been rejected by Guinness three times so far, but she’s not going to stop trying.

The current record holder is Nick Stoeberl’s 3.9-inch long tongue.

She feels she may have inherited it but with time and her sticking it out a lot as a kid could have stretched it further.

Her mother, grandmother and great grandfather all had very long tongues.

Lewis wrote on Twitter that she's had a Gene Simmons-worthy tongue for as long as she can remember.

Though having a monster tongue hasn’t always been fun for the teen. "In elementary school, I was made fun of a lot,” she told Barcroft TV. “I would just [flick my tongue] in bullies’ faces and freak them out."

Adrianne created her own YouTube channel two years ago to showcase all of her tricks.

While Adrianne receives lots of positive feedback online, she is also faced with inappropriate comments from internet trolls.

Her Twitter and Facebook page is testimony of the distasteful feedback but Adrianne can stomach the bitter taste with a pinch of salt.
