Dubai Comic Con: Comic book heroes, villains come to life this weekend

Drop everything and book your tickets (if you haven't done that yet) and get ready to experience one of the biggest pop culture, film, music, art culture and community conventions in the Middle East.

What?

It's time for the Middle East Film & Comic Con (Mefcc) from April 7 (Thursday) to April 9 (Saturday).

Mefcc is the region’s largest pop cultural festival, bringing together celebrities, artists, music, art and exhibitors from across the globe. The Mefcc is the only large-scale consumer event for fans of comics, film and gaming entertainment and pop culture on offer in the Middle East.

Where?

The fifth edition of three-day Dubai Comic Con is taking place at Za'abeel Halls 4, 5 and 6 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The event starts on Thursday April 7: 11am-9pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 10pm.

Travel

Within the DWTC complex, both paid and free parking is available.

The multi-storey parking behind Sheikh Rashid Hall has 1,385 paid parking spaces and there is also a multi-storey car park next to Sheikh Rashid Tower with 885 spaces.

Free outdoor parking areas are located off 312th road, opposite the Convention Gate entrance as well as additional parking near the Za’abeel Hall 1 main entrance.

Dubai World Trade Centre has its own Metro station on the Red Line.

DWTC has direct access from the city's main highway, Sheikh Zayed Road as well as Zabeel Road, making it simple for you to come down from any route you choose.

Tickets

Tickets are available on the website from Dh100 for one day (Dh130 on the door) or Dh250 (Dh300 on the door) for a three-day pass.

Dh500 (Dh600 on the door) for VIP passes – which includes a gift bag, entry to an exclusive lounge, priority queuing, seating and discount vouchers.

Celebrities

With an expected attendance of 50,000 fans the line-up of participants is phenomenal.

'Game of Thrones’ very own Kingslayer, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is coming to Dubai for next month’s Comic Con. The Danish actor who plays Jamie Lannister in the mega-hit TV show will fly into Dubai to meet his fans and make his grand appearance at the con, just days before the new season premieres on April 24.

Nickelodeon Middle East announced that it will participate in this year’s Mefcc and will celebrate the new season of its popular animated series, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' premiering this spring, and the upcoming summer blockbuster 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows' from Paramount Pictures, with an appearance by 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' co-creator Kevin Eastman, and executive producer of Nickelodeon’s 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', Ciro Nieli.

Meanwhile, WWE superstar Randy Orton's name is also added to the lineup at this year’s comic con.

Also added to the line-up are American genre actress Summer Glau (who has played the likes of River Tam from Firefly/Serenity, Cameron from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Isabel Rochev from Arrow) and tokidoki founder, Simone Legno.

Other stars confirmed for the fifth edition of Middle East Comic Con are superstar wrestler Randy Orton, Back To The Future actor Christopher Lloyd, Firefly actress Summer Glau, Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza and the mind behind the Marvel universe Stan Lee (who will join the conference via a live video link up).
