It was the hottest ticket in town Sunday afternoon, both literally and figuratively, as a sold-out crowd of 2,000 descended on the Santa Monica Pier to raise funds for the Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA.

The 16th Annual Mattel Party on the Pier raised a record-breaking $1 million for the charity.

Celebs such as Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Sarah Michelle Gellar, along with their children, were on hand to raise awareness of the work being done at UCLA.

After riding the Ferris wheel with her two moppets, Gellar talked about the amazing work she's seen first hand at the hospital specifically when she had to rush a friend's child to the hospital two year ago.

It was Dr. Sherin Devaskar who impressed Gellar most with the level of care being offered to patients as well as to their siblings who are often forgotten about. "We need to make sure people like her (Devaskar) can continue to do their work," Gellar said.

Gellar emphasized that it is important for her children to learn that everyone isn't as fortunate as them.

"If someone were to ask me what is the most important thing about raising children, I would tell them compassion. Because that is how we make changes in our world," she said.

David Silverman, animator and producer of ‘The Simpsons’, was also on hand accepting the Dr. of Joy award.

"I'm very happy to tell my parents that I'm finally a doctor -- be it an honorary one," he joked. But then talked more seriously about his desire to get involved with helping children and since UCLA is his alma mater he decided the children's hospital there was a good fit.

Others in attendance dining on Wolfgang Puck fare and hanging out in the L.A. Dodgers sponsored VIP tent included Forrest Wheeler (‘Fresh Off the Boat’) and ‘Girl Meets World’ thesps August Maturo, Corey Fogelmanis and Peyton Meyer.
