World’s costliest bag reaches Saudi

Makers of the world’s most expensive handbag put the diamond item on show in the Saudi capital Riyadh after it was exhibited in Dubai this week, newspapers reported on Saturday.

“The handbag was shown in Riyadh on Thursday and its cost is estimated at SR14 million, the most expensive handbag in the world,” the Saudi online Arabic language daily Sharq said.

Designed by the House of Mouawad, the 1001 Nights Diamond Purse is encrusted with more than 4,517 diamonds.

The $3.8-million purse has already found place in the Guinness Book of World Records for its whopping price tag, and along with it, so has the name of its Dubai-based designer Pascal Mouawad, co-guardian of the House of Mouawad.

The purse was first unveiled earlier this week at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition. It was handcrafted from 18-carat gold. It took 10 artisans, working over a period of four months, an incredible 1,100 hours to create the purse.
