Famous Indian celebrity weddings of 2015

It was the year of marriages in Bollywood. There were many marriages, and interestingly most of them were held very quietly away from the eyes of the peeping media. It can be recalled that a few years back, Aamir Khan had started the trend of quiet marriages when he married Kiran Rao. The media was kept at bay. Others like Rani Mukerji and John Abraham followed suit. And this year the numbers are higher.

Kush Sinha and Taruna Agarwal (January 18)

The year began with Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha’s brother Kush getting married to his girlfriend Taruna Agarwal.

The wedding that took place on 18 January saw many high profile celebrities from the political and film industry in attendance.

Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan (January 25)

Exactly a week later on January 25, there were celebrations at Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan’s household. Saif’s sister and actress Soha Ali Khan tied the knot with her boyfriend and actor Kunal Khemu. Kunal was a child actor when he entered Bollywood and won the National Award for the film Zakhm directed by Mahesh Bhatt.

It was a simple wedding compared to the Saifeena wedding. Soha’s mother actress Sharmila Tagore, sister Saba Ali Khan, brother Saif Ali Khan and sister in law and actress Kareena Kapoor were present.                   

Shiladitya Mukhopadhyay and Shreya Ghoshal (February 6)

On February 5, top Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal who has been around Bollywood for a while now married her boyfriend Shiladitya Mukhpadhyay in a private ceremony. The world came to know when Shreya broke the news on a social networking site stating that the wedding took place in a traditional Bengali manner with families and close friends.

Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan (February 9)

Many people in the film industry from Vikas Bhalla to Rohit Roy, from Sharman Joshi to Karisma Kapoor are related to the Bachchan family via a large family tree. Actor Kunal Kapoor of Rang De Basanti fame got a chance to become a closer relative of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan when he got to marry Naina Bachhcan, Amitabh’s neice.

The couple chose the remote and beautiful location of Seychelles and married on February 9.

Abhishek Kapoor and Pragya Yadav (May 4)

Like how his films are a slice of life, Abhishek Kapoor, the director of films like Rock On and Fitoor, took time off from the shooting of his latter film and went on to tie the knot with Sweden-based Bollywood actress, Pragya Yadav on May 4 in a simple wedding at the Iskcon Temple in Mumbai. Interestingly Abhishek Kapoor alias Gattu is Ekta Kapoor’s cousin and a former boyfriend of Akshay Kumar’;s wife Twinkle Khanna.

Ryan Tham and Minissha Lamba (July 6)


Minissha Lamba made a sensational debut in Shoojit Sircar’s film Yahaan, Bachna Ae Haseeno and an entry in Bigg Boss later, the actress decided to get married. She married her long time boyfriend Ryan Tham in a secret ceremony on July 6 in a Mumbai court.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput (July 7)

Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor who has had the unofficial record of maximum flings in minimum time with Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Rao, Priyanka Chopra, Nargis Fakhri, Vidya Balan and many others got married to Delhi-based Mira Rajput in a Gurdwara. A grand reception followed.

Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra (November 1)

Actress Geeta Basra made a decent debut and then did not do well in films. But then once Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh wooed her, she knew where she wanted to be. She married Harbhajan on November 1 in a grand ceremony attended by cricketers and film stars.

Kunal Deshmukh and Sonali Rattan (December 7)

Director Kunal Deshmukh who made films like Jannat 2, had an assistant called Sonali Rattan on that film. And on December 7, the two decided to assist each other for life.
