Fifa 2014 victim: Wayne Rooney's wife abused for being 'proud' of husband

Coleen Rooney wanted to celebrate Father's Day like any other wife and bestow love on her loving husband and father of two - Wayne Rooney.

But instead received abuse after posting loving Father's Day message

She wrote on Twitter: "We love our daddy!! Happy Father's day @WayneRooney. We're so proud of you."

Coleen bore the brunt of the bitter disappointment of England fans after their World Cup defeat against Italy.

The wife of Manchester United striker Wayne received a torrent of abuse for saying how proud she and her two sons are of striker Rooney.

Coleen, a 28-year-old model, also posted a montage of photographs of her absent husband with his two boys.

However, social media users reacted angrily in light of the fact that they did not believe star player Rooney had lived up to his reputation as a footballing great.

Fans made retorts such as ‘Shame he can’t play football’ and ‘What’s there to be proud of?

Rooney, 28, was also trolled on Twitter with many users slamming his corner kick during the match and saying he was played in the wrong position.

The sportsman himself tweeted after the game, when England lost 2-1 to Italy: "Gutted to lose game last night. We move on to Uruguay now. We have to believe snow stay positive."

Meanwhile, the Italian press rubbed salt to England's defeat – claiming that their WAGs are more attractive than those of the England players.

Gazzetta Dello Sport said that the WAGs of their team, including Mario Balotelli’s fiancée Fanny Neguesha and Michela Quattrociocche, the wife of former Liverpool player Alberto Aquilan, were more attractive the likes of Alex Gerrard, Coleen Rooney. Peter Crouch’s wife Abbey Clancy or Frank Lampard’s girlfriend Christine Bleakley.

Rooney's wife jumped to his aid when fans targeted both on Twitter.

The stunning WAG responded to a stream of tweets attacking the footballer, with some calling his performance s*** and others saying he should hang up his boots.

When one user wrote: "@ColeenRoo what for doing nothing in every big game he plays your husbands 1 big extremely ugly joke iv done better looking s****."

Coleen replied: "For being there dad d***head!!"

Another user wrote: "I could do better than that overpaid w***er," and Coleen responded: "Phone Roy up then!"

But more fans kept sending their abuse to Coleen, and another wrote: "If that was his best he should pack the game up. #rooneyoverrated."

The star mum quickly replied: "You take his place then!! Let's see how you get on!! ???"
