Even as Indian cinema’s greatest love story on celluloid unspools in a dramatic swansong with ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ celebrating 1,000 weeks of romancing the masses, it’s reclusive and perhaps, ascetic director, finally steps out of his self-imposed exile after nearly a decade of silence for one last bow.

Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films and now actress Rani Mukherjee’s husband, has released a tell-all book to mark the anniversary that traces the epic romance of on-screen lovers, Raj and Simran, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, respectively.

The book, ‘Aditya Chopra relives Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ has been penned by Nasreen Munni Kabir, whose past works include ‘Guru Dutt: A Life in Cinema’, ‘A.R. Rahman: The Spirit of Music’, among others.

Chopra, who stepped away from the limelight in 1996, a year after his film swept through the awards season, has largely been written about over the corresponding decade for his hushed romance with actress Rani Mukherjee, which finally culminated in a secret wedding earlier this year.

The recluse finally steps out of the shadows to discuss a film’s eternal love story that many writers have drawn parallels with Chopra’s own real-life romance with Mukherjee.

The director shares insights on cinema and provides details about how he went about making the movie that changed his life and that has now become part of the lives of audiences across generations.

The writers of the book also allege fans will be privy to previously unknown information and anecdotes about ‘Dilwale...’, coupled with rare and unseen images.

The book is available on Amazon India. While fans who wish to still catch the film in cinemas can cut a ticket for Mumbai, where the saga still continues to unspool on celluloid in its 1,000 week at Maratha Mandir theatre.
