Oscar- and Grammy-winning musician AR Rahman to kick start his world tour from Dubai. The soulful musician who won millions of heart will hit the stage at the Dubai International Stadium in Sports City on December 9.

AR Rahman is expected to play some of his greatest hits from 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'Lagaan', 'Rang De Basanti' and his latest movie 'Rockstar'. He talks to us about his frist love, music and Rockstar'.

Rahman all set for a rocking world tour view the term rockstar with a different perception, “For me the word 'rockstar' has a completely different connotation. I was 11 years old when I saw some 'underground' rockstar kids.

They used to play rock music all day. I used to watch them, but now it really feels great to find myself playing rock music with the best rock musicians. I have worked with International rockstars and it’s really fun for me."

Rahman shares his views on rock culture in India and his film 'Rockstar', “We belong to a society where family and culture comes first. Being a rockstar is not in our blood and we have not experienced the life of a rockstar. The concept of the movie is such, here is a guy, Jordan who is a pure desi boy. He does not drink alcohol hence he puts alcohol on his neck and face to be like a rockstar. I found the character to be very interesting and liked the concept of the movie.”

The music has been receiving some good response from the audience, and with Ranbir in a stubble, playing the guitar adds to the music. AR Rahman is impressed with Ranbir, he says, “I have seen Ranbir playing a guitar. It is good to see him play the instrument. He has learnt to play the guitar in a very less time. We did not want to lose the character hence we tried to keep the music as real as possible and kept the main instrument as the guitar. We have recorded some vocals in three days and some in a day. We have put too much of hard work into creating the music. The music is newish and accomplished. Most of the songs have a lot of power in it.”

Interestingly, Rahman, who records all his songs in Chennai, recorded songs for Imtiaz’s film at a different location. And sources claimed that Imtiaz was not much happy about the way Rahman had composed some tracks.

Rahman says, “A couple of songs for ‘Rockstar’ were created out of which we have selected some specific tracks. We have spent a huge time in the mixing process. It took us around 35 days to mix the songs. We also had to redo some stuff because earlier we already created some music. So we had to change the whole method. The mixing of the songs was at first done in Chennai and then in Los Angeles and then back at Chennai. There are four male singers, and we had to be careful with the vocals so that we do not overdo it.”

Seems like all this labour could be a result of dissatisfaction from the director’s end.

And to promote the film and its music, A R Rahman will perform live for the first time for a Bollywood film. “It is great thing for me to do this show. It has been long that I performed in India. The whole idea is that to take this movie further. We are expecting some huge crowds,” concludes AR Rahman.
