It was a moment of victory not just for the final winners that danced their way to top of the voting charts on ‘Arabs Got Talent’ last evening, but also a twinkling of hope for the youth of a country that has been embroiled in turmoil this past one year.

Chants of ‘Syria’ drowned out the thunderous applause for the SIMA Group as the young nationals were crowned the winners of the third season of the popular reality TV show on MBC 4 and MBC Masr, taking home the grand prize of 500,000 Saudi Riyals, in addition to a brand new Chrysler 300C car.

The past few months had been a gruelling task for the 48 hopefuls that started out in the talent competition, dwindling down to a mere 12, which included American national Jennifer Grout, who impressed audiences with her Arabic talent.

Before the final winners were announced, viewers had fiercely voted for three finalists: Mohammad Al Deiry from Palestine, the SIMA Group from Syria and Grout.

However, when Sima took to the stage in a final bow, the thunderous dance moves practically sealed the deal for this group of young talent, drawing a standing ovation from fellow judge and singer, Najwa Karam, who asked the dancers to tell the world that Syria was their home.

The emotional win for the group spread the tears amongst audience members present, as SIMA dedicated its win to Syria, vying for hope and peace for its people.

The tears continued to flow last night, with Al Deiry etching a portrait of the late Palestinian president Yasser Arafat with the use of fire, to the backdrop of the famous Al Aqsa mosque. The image was enough to reduce even some of the judges to control their emotions.

Post the win, Mazen Hayek, MBC Groups’ Official Spokesman and Group Director of PR and Commercial said: “Arabs Got Talent in its third season was distinguished by the variety of talents and performances that have surpassed previous years, and have marked global fame preceding the programme’s final episode.”

Karam stressed on the multi-talented contestants and their performances, and insisted that each finalist is already considered a winner at this point.

She said: “This programme is a natural host for all owners of real talent in the Arab world, and I think that whoever deserved to remain in the finals was actually meant to be, thanks to the public voting, that ultimately chose the best.”

Speaking about the American Grout’s entry into the contest as the first non-Arab singer to take part, Najwa said: “The seven musical notes are a universal language, and music in general is the bridge that connects civilizations together.

“From here lies the importance of a Western talent that performs the true colour – that is extremely challenging and technically difficult to perform by a non-Arab… thus, it may open the door for music to spread globally without borders.

“This is similar to the spread of western music in the Arab world… perhaps this is one of the most prominent advantages of such a programme generally, and ‘Arabs Got Talent’ specifically.”
