When Katrina was too fat to work

She's lost nearly 10 kilos for this month's "Tees Maar Khan" but Bollywood superstar Katrina Kaif could well have been a big name in her own home country if she'd shed the pounds back when she was starting out.

The stunning size-10 actress has told how she was once turned away from a UK modeling contract for being too fat.

"They said I didn't fit their size requirement. I knew I was never going to get any thinner. I'm not skinny, I am healthy and toned,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

"I've been training hard for the dance scenes in my latest film and I'm in good shape but I have curves too. If you're naturally thin, that's great. But I think it's so unfair on those girls for whom it doesn't come naturally.

"I'm fed up with seeing tiny models in magazines talking about how they are so curvy. I think, ''No you're not. I'll show you curves!''" she said.

Katrina was born in Hong Kong and lived in France, Japan and China before moving to Finchley, in north London, with English mum Suzanne and Indian dad Mohammed when she was 14.

Three years later she moved to Mumbai to pursue her modelling career and nowadays visits the UK to see her sisters who live there.

She moved to India as a teenager.

"I went there to model and I didn't have the goal of becoming a Bollywood star at all. But after modelling I was offered some film roles,” she said. "I didn't speak much Hindi or have much experience in dance but it was interesting to learn.

I had a language tutor and I practised by having conversations with members of the cast and on set."

Shah Rukh 'pagal' over Madhuri

King Khan Shah Rukh, who has sizzled on screen with dancing diva Madhuri Dixit in films like "Dil To Pagal Hai" and "Devdas", is eager to work with her again, he told media.

"I have no double thoughts when I say that the counting for the good and talented stops when I say Ek do teen. I would love to team up with Madhuri again or at least want her to make a guest appearance in my film in the years ahead," he said recently.

The two actors, who were also seen in "Anjaam" and "Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam", caught up recently as Dixit was in Bollywood to judge the reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", India's version of "Strictly Come Dacing". Khan says they had a lot of catching up to do.

"The recent interaction with her was refreshing and indeed I had a gala time. We spoke about our children at length," he said.

Just as all Madhuri fans, Khan confessed: "I just love her completely, she is my darling. I am fond of her deadly smile and beauty."

Not enough wickedness for Konkona

Bengali thespian Konkona Sen Sharma says she's fed up of playing goodie goodie roles and now wants to sink her teeth into a role that is wicked and sexually adventurous.

The two-time National Award winner told journalists that she enjoyed playing a sexually aggressive woman in Vinay Shukla's "Mirch" and laments that not too many such roles come her way. "The roles that I get offered are very good and of serious women who are morally upright, righteous and honest. But I was dying to do this one (Mirch).

I never get offered this kind of roles," Konkona told the IANS news service.

Dealing with the libido of women who have an uncontrollable urge for sex, the Big Pictures production hit cinema screens in India on Friday.

Stringing together four stories, the movie has the actress playing the lead in two of them.

"These women have an element of wickedness which I really enjoy playing.

For that matter I enjoyed playing two wicked women in the movie," said the actress, 31.

But she has been an active member of the so-called independent, art house and parallel cinema. Ask the dusky beauty if that was deliberate or she was simply offered these roles, and she skips answers diplomatically.

"It's a bit of both, you know...

I do get offered some sensible roles also, but the ones that I have liked have turned out to be like these (defined genres) usually," said Konkona, who also won laurels for her performance in "Luck By Chance" and "Wake Up Sid".

"I do get offered all kind of films by and large, but the bulk of it I may say is of a certain sensibility. But...not always."

Ranbir is the sexiest

Superstar-in-the-making Ranbir Kapoor has been voted the Sexiest Asian Man, proving all those fans right.

The actor, who is famous for his high-profile romances topped the survey conducted by the London weekly, Eastern Eye.

"If the women didn't like me I would feel that something is going wrong, but it feels good. I do understand that the fans I have comprise mainly of women, it feels good to be wanted by so many women," the 28-year-old was quoted as saying by the PTI news agency.
Meanwhile, Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir, said that the actor claimed the title with a overwhelming margin.

"Usually it is a closely fought contest, where as this year there was one very clear winner. Winning by a large margin is remarkable when you consider the very high profile men who are in the list," said Asjad.

Ranbir, who made his acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mega-budget film "Saanwariya" has been going strong since his launch and has tasted commercial as well as critical success with films like "Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani", "Wake Up Sid' and 'Rajneeti".

Bollywood hunk John Abraham narrowly missed out on the top spot by finishing second.

Hrithik Roshan occupied the third spot while R&B star Jay Sean and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar bagged the fourth and fifth spots.
Others to make it to the top ten included world champion boxer Amir Khan and the highest places new entry is "X-Factor" finalist Zain Malik.

Recently, Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif, rumoured to be romantically involved with Ranbir topped the Eastern Eye's list of the hottest women in the world, beating off competition from her contemporaries like Freida Pinto and Priyanka Chopra.
