Bollywood buzz: Soha, Saif, Kareena, Ranbir keep families rocking

Soha Ali Khan gets her first chance of playing royalty – something that runs in her blood. And Soha does seem royal every bit in her role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’.

“She is one girl who is really royal by birth and hence suits the character really well and she has performed well too,” admits Dhulia.

But when the filmmaker cast her brother Saif Ali Khan in his film ‘Bullet Raja’, he preferred to make him rustic and uncouth akin to his role in ‘Omkara’ where he is shown as a character from the heartlands of Uttar Pradesh.

“I needed an actor who will work in my space rather than me going into his. He should not dictate what I should be doing. If that happens we will end up fighting before the film is done,” says Dhulia.

Dhulia has now become a unique director in recent times who has had the distinction of working with siblings in films.

Not long ago, Sajid Khan cast Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor together in the film ‘Housefull 2’ and the brothers were a laugh riot on the sets of the movie. Their coming together was one of the highlights of the film.

Sooraj Barjatya who has directed Karisma Kapoor in the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ had a chance to work with Kareena Kapoor in the film main ‘Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’.

And now Prakash Jha will soon get that opportunity.

Jha who had directed Ranbir Kapoor in his film Rajneeti gets to work with his cousin in the film Satyagraha where he gets Kareena Kapoor in the role of a journalist. Both Kareena and Ranbir got to play earthy characters with Jha.

The Deol brothers Sunny and Bobby who worked in Yamla Pagla Deewana with Samir Karnik are being brought together in the sequel by Sangeeth Sivan.

“‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ is special to me because it is like a tribute to a legendry actor from his sons. I feel lucky to work once more with my dad and Sunny. We three always wanted to work together in a comedy movie,” says Bobby.

Sameer Karnik had also directed the brothers together in the film ‘Heroes’. And importantly they were together in Anil Sharma’s film ‘Mere Apne’ as well. Coming back to Heroes, the movie also saw Sohail Khan and Salman Khan being united in the same film as well, though they were present in different stories within the same film.

There have been several instances earlier of siblings working together in the same film or being directed by the same director. Sohail and Arbaaz were seen together and made a riot in the film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’.

Shilpa and Shamita Shetty came together in the film ‘Fareb’ for director Deepak Tijori in 2005.

One time when all the three Ganguly brothers, Ashok, Kishore and Anup were seen together in the film was in the classic ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’ in 1956 and which was directed by Satyen Bose.

They tried a sequel called ‘Badthi Ka Naam Dadhi’ which was directed by Kishore Kumar. Dilip Kumar and his actor brother Nasir Khan played the title roles in the film Ganga Jamuna which was directed by Nitin Bose.

But then directors will agree that till the time they gave ample space to the siblings they couldn’t get them to work together. Hence it is better to take the Tigmanshu Dhulia road and cast them the way you want to and in the space the director wants to be in.
