Bollywood Khans lead boxoffice raking in over Dh58m each this year

2014 wasn’t particularly a very good year for Bollywood. Most of the films released this year were duds and flopped and even disappointed the fans and the critics together.

Many films that released this year at the box office failed at the box office but there were some films which at least made good the numbers at the box office and ensured that the year was not completely gloomy.

Here are the top ten films of the year completely based on box office performance and nine of them passed the Rs 100 crore [Dh58m] barrier.

10. Sharma Humpty Ki Dulhania

The slot is taken by the Karan Johar produced film 'Sharma Humpty Ki Dulhania' which collected a good Rs 76.81 Crore business at the box office. The film directed by debutant Shashank Khaitan starred Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt was not a very expensive film and was a tribute to the romantic comedy film Shah Rukh Khan Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and the couple were liked a lot by the audiences too as much as they were in 'Student Of The Year'.

9. 2 States

'2 States' takes the number 9 slot. This romantic drama did a business of Rs 104 Crore. This film based on Chetan Bhagat’s eponymous novel was directed by Abhishek Verman  and the lead roles were essayed by Alia Bhatt again along with Arjun Kapoor who came together for the first time.

8. Ek Villain

The number 8 slot is taken by 'Ek Villain'. This Mohit Suri directed film did a business of Rs 105 Crore.  The film had Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead while Riteish Deshmukh played a villain in life for the first time. The experiments were successful and so was the film.

7. Jai Ho

Salman Khan’s 'Jai Ho' stands at no 7. 'Jai Ho' was the first film in the Rs 100 Crore club this year. This Sohail Khan directed film did a business of Rs 111 Crore. This action film had Salman Khan in the lead with the leading lady being debutante Daisy Shah. Danny Dengzongpa played the villain in the film.

6. Holiday

'Holiday' takes the sixth position. AR Murugadoss directed this film which did a business of over Rs 112 Crore at the box office. Murugadoss who made his Hindi debut with 'Ghajini' made his second Hindi film Holiday. This Army thriller starring Akshay Kumar and Sonkashi Sinha saw debutant Freddy Daruwala playing villain.

5. Singham Returns

'Singham Returns' starring Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor stood at the fifth position. Directed by the action man Rohit Shetty this franchise of Singham made Rs 141 Crore at the box office. 2011 saw the famous character of Bajiram Singham emerge when Singham released. Amole Gupte played the villain in the sequel.

4. Bang Bang

'Bang Bang' takes the fourth position. Siddharth Anand directed one of the most awaited films of the film and the film did nnot disappoint the audiences with a collection of Rs 181 Crore.  This Hindi remake of the Hollywood film Knight And Day saw Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles with Danny Dangzongpa playing villain.

3. Happy New Year

The Khans continued to take top three billing this year and managed the grand double of Rs 200 crores plus. At Number 3 was Shah Rukh Khan with his film 'Happy New Year'. Critics may have had huge issues with this Farah Khan film but the film made Rs 203 Crore plus at the box office.

2. Kick

Kick made a royal Rs 233 Crore plus at the box office and took second position. Debutant director Sajid Nadiadwala did not let down audiences when he directed Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles with villain Nawazuddin Siddhiqui in a remake of the south superhit film of the same name.

1. PK

'PK' may have been the last big film of the year releasing towards the end of December, but the film broke all records to get top billing this year.

The film has managed over Rs 240 Crores in 11 days at the box office and is still going strong with the trio of Actor Aamir Khan, director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra striking it again after '3 Idiots'. Anushka Sharma was the heroine in this film.
