Lindsay Lohan is looking forward to "beginning anew" and returning to work as an actress after completing a jail sentence and court-ordered residential rehab programme, her lawyer said on Wednesday.

Lohan was released early from a Los Angeles rehabilitation center on Tuesday just 22 days into a three-month programme ordered by the court for violating probation in a 2007 drunk driving and cocaine possession case.

The "Freaky Friday" actress was also released early from jail earlier this month after serving 13 days of a 90-day sentence. She will now undergo outpatient therapy and counselling.

"She is looking forward to beginning anew and having a productive life and schedule," Lohan's lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley told reporters after a brief court hearing which Lohan did not attend.

"She has changed. She is healthy, clear-headed positive and looking forward," the lawyer added.

Holley said two of the 2007 drunken driving charges against Lohan had been formally dismissed by the judge at Wednesday's hearing because Lohan "has complied with all that has been asked of her."

The 24-year-old was released from rehab early on Tuesday evening because doctors treating her felt that a 90-day stay was unnecessary, Holley said. They advised the court that outpatient care in the form of psychological therapy and a 12-step programme would be more beneficial.

Holley could not comment on media reports that Lohan had previously been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

"She is now looking forward to continuing therapy as an outpatient that will allow her to move forwardly in her work life," the lawyer said.

The career of the once promising actress, who starred in "Mean Girls" and "The Parent Trap," has foundered in the past three years, with Lohan hitting the headlines repeatedly for nights on the town and bizarre behaviour.

Her mother Dina has said her daughter would to return to New York from Hollywood but Lohan's immediate plans were not clear on Wednesday.

Lohan's legal troubles have delayed shooting on her next movie in which she will play 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace. She was last in movie theatres with the 2007 flop "I Know Who Killed Me."
