The red carpet will have to wait a while as the Dubai premiere of ‘Welcome Back’ has been ‘postponed’, according to organisers.

The world premiere for the Bollywood project, which was largely filmed across UAE, was scheduled to be held in Dubai on September 3.

Lead stars John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Shruti Hassan were expected to walk the red carpet, along with director Anees Bazmee, producer Firoz Nadiadwala and singers Meet Brothers and Mika Singh.

Filmmakers on Monday cited scheduling conflicts of the stars as the reason for the Dubai premiere being postponed.

Showcasers, however, confirmed to Emirates 24|7 that the film will release on schedule this Thursday across UAE cinemas.

Along with the global premiere, a fan event on September 3 was also scheduled that was to allow the public a chance to catch a glimpse of and interact with the star cast.

Earlier, Jamal Al Sharif, Chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission and Managing Director of Dubai Studio City said: “Dubai plays an iconic role in ‘Welcome Back’, with scenes shot across the emirate in a number of locations.”

Made on a budget of Dh59 million, ‘Welcome Back’ saw 90 per cent of the movie filmed in Dubai at locations including the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel, the Waldorf Astoria, the Meydan Hotel, the Sofitel Hotel - The Palm, the Grand Hyatt, Burj Khalifa, the Palace Hotel and the Rixos Hotel.

‘Welcome Back’, the sequel to the 2007 film ‘Welcome’, sees Kapoor, Patekar and Paresh Rawal reprise their roles of Majnu, Uday Shetty and Dr Ghungroo, respectively.

New cast members also include the legendary Naseeruddin Shah.
