Dubai-based Indian filmmaker’s forthcoming movie, Kamasutra 3D, starring Sherlyn Chopra in the lead role, has entered the contention list of the prestigious 86th Academy Awards.

The movie has been nominated for the Oscars in three categories: Best Motion Picture, Original Score and Original Song with 5 songs.

Sohan Roy, UAE-based Indian businessmen and director of the controversial movie Dam 999, which was banned in Tamil Nadu, India, is now back in action as co-producer and project designer of Kamasutra 3D, written and directed by Rupesh Paul and presented by Dubai-based Dr George John.

According to Roy, five songs from the movie have been selected in the original category. Oscar nominations were announced on Monday by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on its official website. The movie is slated for a May 2014 release after its premier. Roy maintains that the Oscar nominations are a fitting reply to critics.

Part of the five songs have been composed by UAE born music director Sachin, along with Chennai-based Sreejith.

“Kamasutra 3D is the only movie with five songs after the Great Gatsby to be selected in the original song category of the Oscars. The songs include Aygiri Nandini, Saawaiya, I Felt O Soil and Har Har Mahadeva composed by the UAE-based Sachin. The lyrics are penned by Rupesh Paul and Pratyush Prakash.

The movie is produced by G.J. Enterprises, an entertainment house from Dubai-based keyhole surgeon and sports medicine specialist George John, with a budget of $3.5 million. He also claims to have a close association with Tom Cruise during his shooting for Mission Impossible 4 in Dubai.

The movie is set in the backdrop of the real historical milieu portraying the journey of a soulful love embodied with betrayal and war. The movie is cast with 30 artists, with renowned celebrity Sherlyn Chopra, Milind Gunaji, and King Mal Khan playing lead roles.

Sapan Narula is the cinematographer, Markus Lanxinger has mastered the stereoscopy, choreography by Sajoj Khan and Master Shiva Shankar and the stunt scenes have been choreographed by MS Michael Raj and Keecha Khamphakdee.

Sherlyn Chopra plays the role of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty and pleasure. Set in the backdrop of an ancient history, Kamasutra 3D is about the journey of a beautiful Indian Princess who sets sail in the search of her lover.

The first two ventures of Roy – Dam 999 and Saint Dracula 3D – too had entered the Oscar shortlists in 2011 and 2012, but failed to bag the award. The filmmakers hope that their current venture will make it to the final nominations of the categories in the 86th Academy Awards, which will be announced on January 16, 2014.
