Ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher to rock UAE

Former Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher, is all set to rock Abu Dhabi next month, when he heads on world tour with his new band, Beady Eye.

The British singer-songwriter, who is perhaps equally notorious for his on- and off-stage antics and his long-running feud with brother Noel Gallagher, will be performing in the capital on September 16 at the Flash Forum, Yas Island.

Organised by Flash Entertainment, Etihad Airways is also giving four lucky fans a chance to see Beady Eye live in New York on December 9th.

Liam Gallagher formed Beady Eye just weeks after Oasis split in 2009 – instead of the members, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock parting way, they decided to stick together and have a go at forming a completely new band, which “Rolling Stones Magazine” says sounds very much like sixties rock and roll bands like The Beatles.

Beady Eye made its first public appearance on March 3, 2011, at the Glasgow Barrowland, they then played to sell-out crowds in the United Kingdom before embarking on a summer of festival tours across Asia and parts of Europe.

The tour has so far included more than a dozen cities, Tokyo, Berlin, London, Milan and Brussels, just to name a few.
Fans are raving about Beady Eye; one fan tweeted: “Liam still has it. A rock ‘n’ roll star.”

Gallagher, who turns 39 on September 21, is not only excited to promote his new rock band’s debut gold-selling album “Different Gear, Still Speeding” in Abu Dhabi, but is also keen to get acquainted with the city that helped to revive his most cherished football team, Manchester City.

Gallagher has been a vocal supporter of City since his childhood, so when his new band was given the opportunity to launch City’s new kit earlier in July, and perform the Club Anthem and Elvis classic “Blue Moon”, he leapt at the opportunity.

“I’ve been a City fan since I was a kid so to be involved with the launch of a new kit is colossal. Manchester City fans are known for having a lot of style and the new shirt looks mega. I love the sound wave idea and the Mod-inspired collar looks proper smart,” Gallagher says on the band’s site.

Can they repeat Oasis magic?
The world tour is a make of break tour of sorts for Beady Eye, which is attempting to step out of the Oasis shadow and create its own fan following, minus Noel’s song writing talent; but the band mates are confident.

Explains guitarist Andy Bell: “Music, it’s all about the music, we could all have sat at home after Oasis split but what would have been the point of that. We had a couple of weeks off and then we were back in the studio demo-ing. We’re musicians, it’s what we do, it’s how we define ourselves.”

Gallagher adds: “It was important not to sit and dwell on the past. We’d just come off an Oasis tour and we were on fire, if we’d said, let’s do something in a few months, or next year, the flame would have burned out or we’d have got the fear.

While it has been smooth sailing so far – the band has already released several singles from their debut album, the latest “The Beat Goes On”.
Despite the initial success, Gallagher says they won’t be getting too carried away.

“We’re a new band, we’re not going to get above ourselves and start thinking we can play stadiums and arenas, we don’t want to jump the gun, we want to go out and do small gigs, get back into that vibe then do another album, and take it gradually, stay in the moment of being a new band,” says Gallagher.

Beady Eye has stuck to its promise not to play any Oasis songs at their concerts – Gallagher telling “Rolling Stones Magazine” that the former band is finished.
Tickets are expected to go on sale shortly, starting at Dh295 for general admission (standing) and Dh495 for the fan pit closest to the stage (standing).
