Mehdi Hassan, the King of Ghazal, passed away at a private hospital in Karachi on Wednesday. He was 85.
The legendary Pakistani singer was suffering from lung, chest and urinary tract related ailments for the past several years, according to media reports.
Mehdi Hassan was born on July 18, 1927 in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Hassan, who died in a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, has a huge fan following all over the world.
He was bestowed with several awards in Asia including Tamgha-i-Imtiaz; the Pride of Performance which was given to him by Gen Zia ul Haq; and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz.
He received the Saigal Award in India and the Gorkha Dakshina Bahu Award in Nepal.
