On one hand, director Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘PK’ is sending the cash registers ringing at the box office and the audience is applauding his terrific sense of humour, but on the other, his movie is being rejected by Indian Hindu groups, who are rallying for its ban.

After reports trickled in about Hindu groups petitioning Indian courts to ban it, the online media was abuzz with reports that Aamir’s ‘PK’ may soon be pulled off movie screens in India.

When Emirates24|7 contacted Al Nisr, the distributer for the film in the UAE, they informed they were unaware of any such news.

However, the Al Nisr spokesperson clarified that ‘PK’ will not be banned in Dubai.

“The censor board for UAE is different from India, and since the movie has been cleared here, there is no question of it being withdrawn from the screens here,” he said.

“The movie has been running successfully in the UAE, and in India, and I don’t have any information about any ban.”

UTV films, the producers of the film in India, were unavailable for clarification.

According to the Indian media, Lucknow-based group Hindu Front For Justice has petitioned the Indian court to ban it. “The producer, the director and entire star cast of the movie have made fun of the Hindu religion by misusing the freedom of expression,” the group’s general secretary Ranjana Agnihotri told The Hindu.

Many right-wing groups in India reportedly held protests outside movie halls that screened ‘PK’.
