Pakistan’s 'Lambi Judaai' singer Reshma passes away

Pakistani folk singer Reshma, known for her songs like ‘Lambi Judaai’  and ‘Dama Dum Mast Kalandar’ died in Lahore Sunday morning, Geo TV reported.

Reshma had been suffering from throat cancer and went into coma a month ago.

The renowned singer was born in the Indian state of Rajastan in 1947 when her entire Banjara tribe migrated to Karachi in Pakistan following the partition.

At the age of 12, while she was performing at Shahbaz Qalander's shrine, she was spotted by a television and radio producer  who later coaxed her to record her first song ‘Laal Meri’.


Since then there has been no looking back for the folk singer who went on to give super hits like ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’, ‘Hai O Rabba nahion lagda dil mera’, ‘Sun charkhe di mithi mithi cook mahiya meinu yaad aunda’,  ‘Wey main chori chori’,  and ‘Lambi Judai’.

She began appearing on television and radio from the 1960’s and has recorded for both Pakistan and Indian film industry.

Bollywood singer Lata Mangeshka sang Reshma’s song ‘Ankhyon ko rehne de ankhyon ke aas pass’ for the Bollywood movie ‘Bobby’.

Reshma is lived on by her son Umair and daughter Khadija.
