Shiney allowed to visit Dubai

The Bombay High Court on Monday allowed actor Shiney Ahuja, who has appealed before it against his conviction for raping his 20-year-old maid in 2009, to travel to Dubai for the promotion of his soon-to-be-released film Ghost.

Ahuja was granted bail by the High Court in October for Rs 50,000 and a surety of the same amount. He was, however, asked to stay out of Mumbai and seek prior permission of the court to enter the city.

His application seeking permission to travel abroad stated he had to attend a promotional event in Dubai on December 14 that would require him to stay there. In his application, Ahuja said he is one of the lead actors in the film and needs to be present at the event scheduled in Dubai.

The additional public prosecutor, however, told the court that although the actor had said he needed to visit Dubai he has not provided the details of his itinerary or address and contact numbers in Dubai to the police. She also said that if allowed to travel he would have to deposit an additional surety of Rs 25,000 with the sessions court.
