Genelia D’souza has finished a long innings of eight years in the industry. After some hits and many flops she has managed to create an image of a bubbly actress in Bollywood. Ritesh Deshmukh to Shahid Kapoor, Genelia has been linked with many of her co-stars but still the actress maintains that she is happily single.

How has the journey till now in Bollywood been like?

I have played a variety of characters in these eight years of my career. It includes distinctive roles like the demanding wife of ‘Masti’ to the Muslim warrior princess of ‘Urmi’. Also my upcoming film, ‘Force’ (a remake of a hit Tamil film) will see me in the avatar of a journalist. My career has been one amazing ride and I am totally satisfied with my work.

Before ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ came your way, you were a part of the Southern film industry. Comment.

I am extremely happy that I entered Bollywood with a hit like, ‘Jaane Tu…’. With this hit film I started a new trend of South Indian actresses entering Bollywood. It is only after me that Asin and Kajal Aggarwal decided to step into Bollywood. But I believe that the film industry down South has lots to teach. Those actresses who don’t take it seriously surely miss a great opportunity to learn from them.

Do you feel tied up with an image of any of your past movies?

No, I don’t believe that my image is typecast. But I myself have created the image of a bubbly girl because of which I am extremely liked and favored in Bollywood as well as in the Southern film industry.

How do you manage working in Hindi and Southern films?

I myself am clueless how I manage so much of work. I consider myself extremely lucky to be a part of not two but five film industries at the same time.

What according to you is the difference between Bollywood and movies down South?

I don’t consider Bollywood and the South industry as two different entities. For me it in one complete cinema with the only difference being is that of language. I have come a long way in acting and this is very important for me. For now I feel my own roles are a big competition for me.

Your personal life is always discussed in the news. Comment.

When you are working in an industry, making friends becomes far too tough. Also the fact of just being spotted with someone is more than enough to link you with that particular person. There has been lots of news with regards to Ritesh Deshmukh and me. But the fact remains that I am single which seems to be hard for people to digest. Hence I prefer to concentrate on my work rather that give importance to such incorrect news. At the moment I am not dating anyone and have no such plans in near future.

The news was doing the rounds that you stood as a strong support for Shahid Kapoor when he went through the break-up with Priyanka Chopra, how true is it?

The only truth in that is the fact that Shahid is a good friend of mine. But I have never asked or discussed anything with regards to his personal relationships.
