The motley collection of new releases this week is nothing to write home about, barring the Richard Gere-starrer ‘Arbitrage’.
The tale of how a greedy hedge-fund manage spins a devilish plot to make a quick buck has received rave reviews and will unquestionably leave us entertained. We’d strike this one as a must-watch on our movie weekend list.
‘For Greater Glory’ is an impeccable take on the Mexican power struggle of the 1920s, where a military head trains the naïve rebels into winning their freedom.
There’s also ‘Wickie And the Treasure of Gods’ that might prove a fun pick for the younger crowd, who’d surely enjoy a tale of how a young boy works towards proving his valour.
‘The Expatriate’ is an action-packed adventure that trails an ex-CIA agent who races against time to safeguard his daughter while trying to unveil an international conspiracy.
Of the two Bollywood entries, the Ram Gopal Varma’s spook-fest ‘Bhoot Returns’ can safely be skipped, and reserved for a telly viewing. Its low-cost production value and unimaginative plot make it more comical than scary.
Even Rani Mukerji’s ‘Aiyaa’ appears a little over-the-top for our sensibilities, but we are hoping the talented actress might spring a surprise on us this time round. Keeping our fingers crossed.
