Funny side up: 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' heads to Dubai

You knew it was only a matter of time. And it was probably Kapil Sharma’s busy appointment book – what with rubbing shoulders with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan – that the ridiculously popular comedian and TV host hasn’t been round to Dubai as yet to stage his cult show.

That is, until now.

The ‘King of Comedy’, as he is often called by Indian media and fans, will be in Dubai on September 5 for a live show at the Sheikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The two-hour live ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ show will feature celebrity guests Shaan and Mika Singh, who will be promoting their upcoming film, ‘Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya’.

Organisers, Eyka have confirmed a few more surprise acts are in store.

Meanwhile, show regulars, including Mrs Sharma, Daadi, Bua, Guthi and Palak will all be in attendance for the live act, which will be set against the backdrop of Dubai’s skyline.

Additionally, Sidhu will also be reprising his role of moderator-judge, even as the audience will be able to pose questions directly to the celebrity guests.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Anita Abraham, owner of Eyka, a Dubai-based events and advertising company, said: “This event is a big deal because it is the first time ‘CNWK’ is being filmed outside India. The show’s concept will be exactly the same to what is aired on Colors TV, except with a Dubai skyline serving as a backdrop.”

She continued: “There are other celeb acts that are also attending the event, which will be announced closer to the date.”

Speaking about the show’s cult following with fans, Abraham further added: “While the show has garnered a large fan base in India, ‘CNWK’ is not limited to its local audience alone, especially when you take into account the large Asian diaspora in the UAE that watches the comedy show, including those from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and even Hindi/Urdu speaking Emiratis.

“I am confident this will prove to be a sell-out show.”

Tickets for the live performance are on sale on Platinumlist.net, ranging between Dh150 and Dh1,000. Doors open at 7pm and show starts at 8.30 pm.

‘CNWK’ has enjoyed some of the highest ratings on Indian television (IMDB Rating 8.5/10).

At the 2013 edition of the Indian Television Awards, the show bagged the top prize in the category of Best Actor Comedy for host Kapil Sharma, along with Best Serial Comedy.

Sharma has also been named CNN-IBN Entertainer of the year, while winning at the BIG Star Entertainment Awards 2013 for Most Entertaining Comedy Show award.

Most recently, the comedian’s popularity also bagged him a spot as co-host for the opening season of the popular reality TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati?’, which is anchored by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
