Daniel Craig has reportedly turned down a £68 million offer to play James Bond in two more movies.

The 48-year-old actor - who has portrayed 007 in four films - is said to have rejected the huge offer, which is thought to be made up of profit shares, endorsements and a role as co-producer, from MGM studio and told bosses he is 'done' playing the suave spy.

So who will be the next James Bond or possible Jane Bond? Yes you read it right.

While speculation mounts over who could potentially replace Craig, 'X-Files' actress Gillian Anderson has put forward her bid (of sorts) to become 007's female replacement.

The actress got behind a social media campaign calling for her to take charge of the franchise and retweeted a fan-made poster that depicted Gillian clad demurely in a tailored white dress and standing against the franchise's iconic gun barrel backdrop.

During a recent Tumblr Q&A, a fan asked Gillian, the best rumor she'd heard about herself. Her answer, "That I might be the next Bond."

Next up, a fan created a mock poster with the X Files star in Skyfall, and she promptly tweeted it to her nearly 500,000 followers.

"It’s Bond. Jane Bond," she wrote, suggesting she might make a great replacement for Daniel Craig. "Thanks for all the votes! (And sorry, don’t know who made poster but I love it!) #NextBond."

Considering the post received 25,000 likes and 13,000 retweets, Bond lovers on social media are buying the idea of a female protagonist in the British spy movie.

Of course, along with Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Damian Lewis we have another female contender for the role - Priyanka Chopra.

The 'Quantico' lead actor in a recent cover story for Complex, has expressed her interest in playing the 007 role.

When talking about her upcoming role in 'Baywatch', which was originally written as a male role, she added that she keeps getting told she'd make a great Bond Girl. "But **** that — I wanna be Bond," she told Complex.

Priyanka seems to be the flavour of the season. She is omnipresent in every big Hollywood do and hogging the cover pages as well.

The actress, who catapulted to the top and within a short span of time spiralled her way to the big league, has already featured on Time Magazine's power cover and earlier featured on Elle US. She also featured on the cover of TV Guide, a bible for American television.

Recently we saw the actress gracing the power packed, scintillating cover of US magazine, Complex.

And now joining the bandwagon is Emmy Magazine, which features Priyanka as the cover girl of their latest issue.

So are we ready to see a bold and beautiful Jane Bond and say goodbye to the stylish, ultra-masculine womanizer James Bond?
