Bollywood's 'Ram-Leela' couple is back!

Actress Deepika Padukone will play historical character Mastani with Ranveer Singh playing Bajirao Peshwa in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani'.

The casting has been a nail biting finish. For quite some time now, there has been a big question mark about two huge Bollywood projects - 'Shuddhi', directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar, and 'Bajirao Mastani', directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Both projects were vying for real-life couple Deepika and Ranveer to play their lead characters.

The actors went back and forth but have finally put an end to months of speculation.

Besides Ranveer, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn were the strongest contenders for Bajirao's role. As for Mastani, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were also considered.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali was keen on Deepika for Mastani's part. But she couldn't seem to accommodate the long schedules.

Now the actress has agreed to do the film, which will go on floors at the end of this year.

According to reports, Ranveer's nod to the film made it easier for Deepika to decide. This will mean that they can spend more time together while working on the same project.

Also she thought it might be a safer option since Bhasali has more experience when compared to Karan Malhotra, who is a film old.

The two films - 'Shuddhi' and 'Bajirao Mastani' are scheduled to go on floors at about the same time, meaning that the actor could pick only one of the two projects.

Newspaper reports suggest that Deepika's decision to pick Bhansali's film over Karan didn't go down well with the latter.

However, Deepika has not let go of 'Shuddhi' at this point and is still trying to work out her dates.

Does that mean Deepika is still wavering between the two? We guess there's too much on her plate to choose from.
