Imran is India’s biggest star after me: Aamir

Bollywood’s next superstar isn’t Ranbir Kapoor, it’s the newly married Imran Khan.

Or so his uncle Aamir seems to believe.

“He is the No 2 star in the country now. I am no 1,” Aamir told reporters at his nephew’s wedding on Monday.

But the actor also joked that Imran needed to take a closer look at his approach to finances, saying he’d never seen a more miserly actor than Imran. “Look at him. He did not give [Avantika] a good sum of money to enter the house. He was saying I would give Rs 5000 only. I made him give Rs 10,000,” guffawed Aamir, talking of the younger actor’s approach to one of the traditions in his community. “If I were him, I would have given anything. I pulled his leg a lot. You should not have made her wait at the door. He was sitting and arguing as to how much he should be giving her. Finally he upheld the Khan family ki izzat (reputation).”

Aamir also said an upcoming reception he is hosting for the couple would be a quiet event. “The wedding reception is mostly a family affair now. There are only family people coming now for the reception,” says Aamir.

And so what about the big Bollywood reception then? “Well, that is a surprise now,” he smiles.

Incidentally Imran’s new place has been decorated by a Khan family member itself. “My youngest sister has done up the house,. She has done all these paintings. She did up the house before the wedding took place,” he said.

So what did Aamir give the bride and the groom? “Well I gave them my blessings,” Aamir said with a mischievous smile.

Now, now… who’s the miser?
