Reality shows on Indian television have come as a boon to millions of Indians who always had the talent but never an opportunity, exposure or platform to showcase their creativity.

Spotting exceptional talent

Currently, the Indian Idol Junior 2013 auditions are being aired on Sony Entertainment Television on Saturday and Sunday evenings. From the first few episodes, it is evident that the children being selected to participate in the show in Mumbai are super talented and exceptionally gifted. The children are being judged by playback singer Shreya Ghoshal and music director duo Vishal-Shekhar.

A few participants have stunned the judges and the viewers alike. They have made it to the next round of auditions to be held in Mumbai only on the basis of their talent.

All the contestants and winners of these reality shows have got an awesome platform to showcase their creativity and innate talent only due to the concept of reality shows that have become so much of a rage in India and worldwide.

Journey of Indian reality shows

Through the reality shows, hundreds of contestants have got an opportunity in life to be groomed by stars and artistes themselves.

The journey of Indian reality shows began in the 1990s, when a man named Gajendra Singh revolutionized the country's television industry as he introduced the concept of reality show on the small screen for the first time in the form of a musical show called ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’.

Singh's contribution to Indian music cannot be commended enough for taking it to each and every household in the country and enabling hundreds and thousands to come out of their remote locations and enthrall country-wide audience with their talent on different channels.

Creating talent pool

Indian reality shows have come a long way since the 1990s with new and improved formats. These reality shows have given the country’s film industry a lot of talented singers such as Sunidhi Chouhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala and many others.

Scores of others who have not been successful in making it to Bollywood have found their livelihood in performing stage shows all over the world, including the UAE.

Evolving formats

With every season of these musical reality shows raise their level, to the delight of those who are passionate about music, and the contestants who come from different parts of the country. Those who participate in these competitions with an eye on the big chance have proved in the past that they are up to any challenge that the judges throw at them.

Little champs

Three of such heart-rending performances during the audition round of Indian Idol Junior 2013 have been listed below (in no particular order).

A young girl of 12, Prerna Agarwal, has especially caught the attention of the viewers and a video clip of her performance during audition has gone viral on social networking sites. Her lyrical voice as well as her innate knowledge of musical tune is extraordinary.  Check out her rendition of ‘Saiyaa Beimaan’ from the film ‘Guide’.

Another exceptional performance was by a little girl who sported a toothless smile and performed ‘Janne Kya Baat Hai…’ and ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi’.  A young fan of Shreya Ghoshal, the little one got homemade fish curry for her idol.

A young boy from north-eastern state of Assam, Shyam Sundar Chetry gave a soul-stirring performance when he sang Kailash Kher’s ‘Heere Moti Main Na Chaahoon’.
