Is New York Aishwarya Rai, Abhi Bachchan’s favourite destination?

Guess it’s the price you pay for being a star couple. It’s just not easy to stroll down the streets with your celebrated better-half, without attracting a barge of shutterbugs.

So, what they often do is rush overseas for some quality “couple” time.

And, like other celebrity couples, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have also been travelling away from India so they can get away from the media glare and enjoy time together. 

With the Indian media obsessed about capturing their every move, and work commitments and baby duties eating into their couple time, it’s only natural that Abhi-Ash prefer to travel out of the country to unwind.

Some of their favourite destinations are Dubai, London, Cannes and New York.

They’ve also taken short breaks in Goa, but the media attention does get overwhelming.

After the arrival of their little girl, Abhi-Ash have also planned their holidays around their work commitments.

Most recently, the couple had headed to Vancouver to participate in an Indian film awards night, but stayed on because they wanted to spend some time together.

The couple later travelled to New York, along with their little girl Aaradhya and even celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary, away from the media glare.

Abhishek has been working on ‘Dhoom3’ and Ash has been busy nurturing their child, so the US-holiday was their much-needed time away from home.

Their return to India was well captured, hinting at just how popular they are with the media. 

Even their wedding had created much hype after media persons, who docked outside their house, did not catch a glimpse of the newly-weds.

In fact, for their honeymoon, the Bachchan couple had headed to Europe. They first went to Cannes so Ash could fulfil her red carpet duties as L’Oreal’s brand ambassador, and then they headed to Europe.

For their first wedding anniversary, Abhishek was in Florida for ‘Dostana’ and Ash had joined him for a quick trip to the US.

They’ve frequented London, to watch the Olympics last year, or charity dinners, or to attend Asian film festivals.

It was during one of these trips, they had taken Aaradhya, and Ash was spotted shopping with her.

They’ve even travelled to Dubai, and indulged themselves to some much needed pampering.

But, over the years, the couple has favourited New York and have spent spend days relaxing and shopping in the city.

Another reason could be that it was in this city that Abhishek first proposed to Aishwarya.

He had narrated to an Indian magazine how he had stood on the balcony of a New York hotel years ago and thought out his wish to marry Ash. 

“I was filming in New York for a movie…and I used to stand on the balcony of my hotel room and wish that, 'One day, wouldn't it be nice if I was together with her, married',” Abhishek had revealed.

It was a few years later, when he and Ash were in New York City for the premiere of ‘Guru’, that he took her to the same balcony and popped the question. 

“After the premiere, we were back in the hotel…So I took her to the very same balcony, and I asked her to marry me.” And, in 2007, the two united in matrimony.
