Concert season kicks off after the summer hiatus and how. Nearly a month from today, the iconic Janet Jackson will groove to her biggest hits at Yas Arena, Yas Island, courtesy of Flash Entertainment.

The show, scheduled for October 13, will see the five-time Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Jackson, will be a unique performance, where the diva is said she would only perform music exclusively from her chart topping CD number ones.

King of Pop Michael Jackson’s sister has chosen Abu Dhabi as one of the 35 international cities she will perform at during her “Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour”.

Having sold over 100 million records, Jackson is ranked as one of the best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music, paving the way for pop stars such as Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Rihanna.

In fact, in a recent interview, Rihanna was quoted as saying that Janet Jackson was one of the first female pop icons that she could relate to.

“She was so vibrant, she had so much energy. She still has power. I’ve seen her on stage, and she can stand there for 20 minutes and have the whole arena scream at her. You have to love Janet,” she said.

Talking about her upcoming tour, Jackson said: “These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done.  I will be as up close and personal as possible, she said.

“These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I’ll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you've made number one for me.”

Albeit Jackson was not too far from the limelight as the youngest child of the Jackson family, which was already a household name courtesy the Jackson 5, it was only in 1986 that she really come into her own following the release of her third studio album “Control.”

Today, she is ranked as one of the top 10 best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music.

The 45-year-old released her “Number Ones” album, her second greatest hits compilation, in 2009.

The double-disc album featured her 35 number one hit singles, spanning various music charts and includes Jackson’s new single, “Make Me,” which became her 35th number one single and 19th number one hit on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.

Organisers, Flash Entertainment, states that the Jackson concert is their way to kick off the season with a bang, with many more surprises in store in the coming months.

In a statement, Shatha Al Romaithi, a company spokesperson, said the return of the Yas Island Show Weekends was a clear indication that the first year’s concert series was a success.

“The Janet Jackson concert will only be the debut of a series of surprise announcements this month around the Yas Island Show Weekends,” she said.

“Watch this space as we begin to unveil the star-studded line up for the first quarter of this season.”
