Jennifer Lawrence will be quitting the 'X-Men' series after the release of 'X-Men: Apocalypse' in 2016.

The actress revealed that this will be last time she'll be seen playing the shape-shifting mutant Mystique.

Lawrence confirmed the same while speaking with MTV News at the New York premiere of her new film, ‘Serena'. "It is my last one, actually," she said, without giving away any details.

Lawrence started playing a younger version of Mystique in X-Men: First Class in 2011 and reprised her role in last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past.

With a number of new mutants appearing again - Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) - the time could be right for Lawrence to step away from her role.

However, Lawrence isn't the only one bidding farewell to the franchise.

The possibility of Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as the furry mutant, Beast is also unsure.

The actor told E! Online, "This is the last one I'm signed up for." However the actor also added that if the right script comes along then he would re-consider doing the role.

Directed by Bryan Singer, 'X-Men: Apocalypse', the latest instalment in the series, stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner and Alexandra Shipp in key roles and is set to hit the big screen next year in May.
