Johnny Depp: 'No romance for Jack Sparrow'

Johnny Depp doesn't think Captain Jack Sparrow could ever have a partner.

The 47-year-old actor - who has portrayed the camp swashbuckling hero in four instalments of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' - doesn't think the character could ever fall in love because it would destroy his "legend".

He said: "I think if we did a scenario where it was Captain Jack really falling in love, it would most likely be a silent film.

"I think he would go completely catatonic and be unable to speak. He would probably sit there and quiver for an hour and a half. It would mess up the legend. Which I think is always working for it, to leave the legend behind."

However, he does confess working with Penelope Cruz on the movie as a leading female pirate was a treat as she was so "fiery".

Johnny added to MTV News: "She's one of the greatest gifts you could get. She's so fiery and has such spirit and such talent. Also, besides that, she's a great friend. She's so funny and so capable of anything."
