No more love for Sanjay Dutt; producers demand refund

When news of actor Sanjay Dutt’s jail verdict hit the newsstands, the Indian film fraternity had stood united and pledged their support for him and his family.

Everyone who was anyone in the industry took to twitter, facebook and even approached the Indian media to express their displeasure over how such a ‘good man’ was being punished.

Many even stepped forward to appeal on his behalf and shoot requests to the President to pardon him.

The actor had then told the media that he didn’t want to be pardoned and was willing to finish his jail term.

He had promised to finish his movies before the jail term kicked in.

Many big actors, with whom he was working on, had even shifted their movie schedules so that they could help Sanjay complete his work.

That was four weeks ago.

But, today, with a day left for him to step into jail, provided his six-month extension plea tomorrow is rejected, there is much work left unfinished.

In fact, Sanjay’s appeal for an extension was based on his inability to complete the projects he had signed for.

According to the Indian media, film producers have invested close to INR300crore on him.

And, they are now demanding their money back if the actor is unable to finish work on their movies.

As reported in Daily Bhaskar, many producers are demanding a refund from the actor.

“Many producers had invested in Dutt before the verdict was announced. All of them are asking for the actor to return their money. Most of these films have not even gone on the floor, and were scheduled to be announced this month,” the report highlighted.

The money, however, is allegedly locked by his wife Maanayata, who is trying to work out way to pacify the producers.

Some claimed that the actor, despite working round the clock, can’t finish work in two days.

“Sanju has been working like a mad man. He shot two shifts last week for Apoorva Lakhia’s ‘Zanjeer’ and Ravi Kumar’s ‘Police-giri’,” revealed his friend.

Apparently he’s bent upon finishing his work, and has hired a mobile dubbing van.

The movie that impact from Dutt’s absence is Raj Kumar Hirani’s ‘PK’.

With the April 18 deadline just round the corner, we’d have to wait and see how this drama unfolds.
