Duchess Catherine has hinted she is expecting a baby girl after almost saying the word daughter during a scheduled appearance.

But the famously discreet Duchess of Cambridge paused and said 'baby' instead.

The duchess - who is around 21 weeks pregnant with her first child and admitted she can feel it moving around inside her "very much" - dropped a major clue that she and Prince William are set to welcome a daughter in July.

After a well-wisher presented her with a white teddy bear during an official visit to Grimsby, north England on Tuesday (05.03.13) and she said: "Thank you, I will take that for my d... for my baby."

Sandra Cook, who was standing next to a woman who gave Kate the cuddly toy, said: "As she handed it over I distinctly heard Kate say, 'Thank you, I will take that for my d...' Then she stopped and corrected herself to say, '... for my baby'.

"When she shook hands with me I said, 'You nearly slipped up there, you were going to say daughter, weren't you?' She smiled and said, 'What do you mean? We don't know yet'.

"I teased her and said, 'Oh I think you do' - to which, still smiling, she replied, 'We're not telling.' I'm certain it's a girl. She wouldn't have said the D-word otherwise. After she said it, she was a little flustered."

A source told USMagazine.com that the royal couple recently learned the sex of their unborn first child "but they've only told their parents."

Queen Elizabeth previously confirmed that if the couple have a baby girl, she will receive a princess title and be referred to as Her Royal Highness.

During the visit, Catherine toured the National Fishing Heritage Centre and Peaks Lane Fire Station and officially opened Havelock Academy secondary school.

Duchess Catherine feels baby move

Britain's Duchess Catherine has been feeling her unborn baby move "very much", she told well-wishers in Grimsby today (05.03.13).

The duchess is around 21 weeks pregnant with her first child and admitted she can feel it moving around inside her "very much".

During an official visit to Grimsby, North England, today (05.03.13), well-wisher Bobbi Brown revealed: "I asked her if the baby has been moving or kicking.

"She said 'Yes it is, very much so'."

Catherine's arrival into the Lincolnshire town had been delayed due to fog.

Her helicopter touched down at around 1pm, just under 90 minutes later than scheduled.

Her spokesperson said ahead of her arrival: "The Duchess of Cambridge's arrival in Grimsby has been slightly delayed due to fog in the area, preventing the aircraft from flying.

"The duchess is travelling from London. We expect the programme to be between 1 - 1.5 hours delayed.

"The venues will remain the same once the Duchess arrives."

The decision to use a helicopter, rather than the cheaper train, has attracted some criticism, but royal officials insisted it was the most suitable mode of transport.

A St. James's Palace spokesperson said: "There a number of factors taken into consideration when it comes to royal engagements.

"It depends on what the member of the royal family is doing before or after and how long the journey takes.

"It was decided that the most suitable way to travel to Grimsby was to come by helicopter."

During the visit, Catherine - the wife of Prince William - was scheduled to tour the National Fishing Heritage Centre and Peaks Lane Fire Station and officially open Havelock Academy secondary school.
