King-in-waiting Prince George is set to inherit land holding retailers like Primark and Mothercare.

The four-year-old royal - who is the youngest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - is in line to assume control of The Crown Estate, which is currently controlled by the Queen and includes a string of lucrative shopping centres, according to the Daily Express newspaper.

Bath Road Retail Park and The Banbury Gateway Shopping Parkin Oxford are listed among the shopping centres currently controlled by the Queen - although she does not directly profit from sales.

The news comes shortly after it was claimed that Prince George and his younger sister, two-year-old Princess Charlotte, have already started to influence fashion trends around the world.

The Prince wore a blue jumper during the royals' tour of Canada in 2016, prompting a 200 percent spike in searches for the term 'blue jumper', and his sister is having a similar impact with her own attire.

An eBay spokesman recently explained: "Her yellow cardigan worn in her birthday picture sparked the biggest percentage increase in searches for an item of clothing worn by any royal."

Murray Lambell, vice-president of trading at eBay, said that although Duchess Catherine is widely known for her stylish attire, it is the youngest generation of royals who are now the most influential.

He said: "It's the youngest generation of royals who really generate the must-have fashion items - and are driving a new generation of shopping behaviour on eBay."
