Priyanka & Shahid's love story is not original

‘Inspired’ story lines seem to be the new trend in Bollywood. And Buster Keaton seems to be a favorite among the imitators.

Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardar’ is reportedly a copy of Buster Keaton’s 1920s silent film ‘Our Hospitality’ and Kunal Kohli’s much hyped ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra is modestly ‘inspired’ by Buster Keaton’s ‘3 Ages’.

However, copying an English film is not all that ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ does, as Shahid and Priyanka will be seen romancing in a very ‘worn-out’ theme.

Bollywood seems to have got stuck to the idea of different lifetimes, generations, and seasons.

Shahid himself was a part of a ‘timeless’ love story, ‘Mausam’. The film’s tale spanned four seasons, as love blossomed between Shahid and Sonam Kapoor. Perhaps forgetting the fate of the movie at the box office, Shahid signed the somewhat similar ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’.

This time around, the actor will be romancing Priyanka in three different ‘lifetimes’—1910 Punjab, 1960 Bombay, and 2012 England.

While many have spotted the similar story line, Shahid defends his choice. He says, “‘Mausam’ was a journey of two people over four seasons, over a span of 10 years. ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ is about three different couples in three different time periods. ‘Mausam’ was a very serious, emotional, and dramatic film. ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ is a romantic comedy and not serious or dramatic.”

Another movie made on the same lines was ‘London, Paris, New York’, where the characters played by Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari met in three different places at different times.

Although the box-office records for such themes are not flattering, filmmakers continue to explore them.

Apart from enjoying the ‘Kaminey’ couple again on screen, the audience seems to have little to look forward to.
