Ranveer Singh is about to set the screen afire with his latest films ‘Lootera’ and ‘Ram Leela’. He played a con man in his last release 'Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl' and in an interview he described his character Bitto Sharma from 'Band Baaja Baraat' as a "loafer". He has been constantly playing such characters. Is this a mere co-incidence? “I don’t know. I guess my face is like that, so they give me such characters.”

‘Lootera’ is inspired by ‘The Last Leaf’, a book written by O Henry. Ranveer says the film is not a copy. “A lot of it is from the book, but there are fresh angles.” He says it’s an original script and screenplay.

Ranveer’s promos of ‘Lootera’ remind one of Shah Rukh Khan. He thanks us for the compliment. But when he got to know that people tease SRK by his name at the sets of ‘Chennai Express’, he shyly says, “SRK bade hi mazaki hai (he is a funny man).”

Speaking about his experience with co-actor Sonakishi Sinha he says, “I got to learn a lot from her”. He thanks her for teaching him how to be comfortable in his skin.

Ranveer’s physique looks great and this is evident from first rushes of ‘Ram Leela’. But, he says, it was not at stressful for him to get the desired physique and it all depends on the character he plays. He adds that he hardly did any workout for his character in ‘Lootera’ because, “there I have a sober body and the film is set in 1980 before the gym culture.”

He adds, “‘In ‘Ram Leela’, Mr Bhansali was very clear that he wanted me to look extremely hot. He said ‘when you come on screen the girls should tear either your clothes off or their own’.” About a shirtless sequence in the film he says, “We were doing a song and when he saw my body, he said let’s do this shirtless.” About his physique in ‘Gunday’ he says, “My director wanted me to have certain kind of body for the action sequences.” He says Hrithik Roshan’s body is “outstanding” and Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone too have good bodies.

How much time did he spend in the gym? He says, “I go to the gym twice a day. I have had a lot of protein shakes and it was hard to diet. In fact my new year resolution this year is to not cheat on my diet.”
Advising fans to stay fit he says, “Your body is you temple and you’ve to respect it because health is everything.”

He says, “If you want people to look at you than you should have a physique to look at. There is competition amongst actors and everybody is going through the ‘gym culture’.”

On Bhansali he says, “He is a wonderful guy, and he is a genius – a master of his craft. I have given my best to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I hope people like it.”

Ranveer is getting a lot of good work. He says, “I am just blessed that I am getting to do exciting roles.”

In ‘Band Baja Baarat’, Ranveer spoke in Haryanvi and for ‘Ram Leela’ he had to learn Gujarati. He says he went to Gujarat and picked up the language in 4-5days.

Ask him how difficult it was for him to grow a moustache for ‘Ram Leela’ and he says, “I had to put gel in the morning and at night I had to put oil before sleeping, to keep it in shape.”

Ranveer has got a chance to romance with several glamorous actresses including Anushka, Deepika, Parineeti and Sonakshi. Who is most compatible with?

He says, “Everybody has different chemistry and temperament. They all are unique and I enjoyed working with all of them.”
