Bollywood actor Salman Khan pleaded not guilty on Wednesday in an arms case in a court in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

According to Times of India, Salman recorded his statements in the 17-year old case.

But what stood out during his statement was his dramatic response when the judge asked him his caste.

While taking down his personal details, Salman was asked his name, father's name, occupation and other details to fill in a legal form.

When the judge asked him his caste, the actor first said, 'Indian', looking perplexed.

Someone from the court even prompted him to say 'Muslim' but Salman ignored it and said, he was a Hindu and Muslim.

He said his father Salim Khan is a Muslim while my mother, Susheela Charak is a Hindu.

The next hearing in the case is slated for May 4.

The actor is accused of poaching three chinkaras and a black buck near Jodhpur in September and early October 1998 during the shooting of a film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.

The forest department had then registered a case under the Arms Act with the local police alleging that the licenses of the weapons used by him had expired and thereby making the use illegal.

Salman Khan has argued in court that he had applied for a renewal of licence for the weapons soon after it expired and hence was not using them illegally.
