Bollywood actresses have often raised the issue of income disparity in the industry.

Actresses like Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut have been rather vocal about less or unequal pay for female actors than their male counterparts, but superstar Salman Khan rubbishes the issue.

Salman sounded upset about women asking for more money and talking about gender equality.

Likes of Deepika, Kangana, Katrina Kaif often charge more than other male actors barring the three Khans – Salman, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Shahid Kapoor.

"There are other male actors drawing between Rs 3 to 5 crores and female actors drawing Rs 5-7 crores. The reason is it depends on who is commanding an audience in to the theatres. It is not just about payments, it is also about what can the actors do on his or her own by getting the audiences into the theatres irrespective of what the story or the content in the film is," says Salman Khan.

Khan clearly says that in today's times when films are also doing well on the basis of content, an actor's fees is irrelevant. But then when it comes to star fees and a draw at the box office, the star has to have enough star power to get the audiences in.

"It is not fair to say that actresses are discriminated. If an actress can get in as much audiences as what the biggest drawing actor, she should be paid that much.

"When you look at a male actor drawing lesser than her, he is not complaining about her drawing more than him, because he is only being paid what he is worth. If the producer and the distributors are making good money out of an actor or an actress, they need to be compensated accordingly irrespective of what the gender is. I find this gender bias issue being raised as very stupid," says Salman.
