The alleged suicide of Hollywood actor Robin Williams yet again highlights the pressure, frustration and despair that come as a part and parcel of the glamour life.

We list down some celebrities who took extreme step to end their life.

Robin Williams

Robin Williams, the versatile actor whose madcap comic style made him one of television and film's biggest stars, was found dead on Monday from an apparent suicide at his home in Northern California. He was 63. Williams' appeal stretched across generations and genres, from family fare as the voice of Disney's blue Genie in "Aladdin" to his portrayal of a fatherly therapist in the 1997 drama "Good Will Hunting," for which he earned his sole Oscar.

Marilyn Monroe

The actress who became the symbol glamour around the world was found dead at the age of 36 in her Los Angeles home early on the morning of August 5, 1962. Like many famous celebrities, ‘overdose of pills’ was claimed as the reason for her sudden death. It has been stated that Marilyn would write things like, “I think I’m going crazy, and I don’t want to live.” Monroe's "acute barbiturate poisoning" was listed as a "probable suicide".

Tony Scott

Tony Scott was the director of the hit film “Top Gun”, one of the first movies that featured an upcoming actor Tom Cruise.  Mr. Scott jumped off a bridge into the Los Angeles Harbor in which he suffered multiple traumas and eventually passed away from drowning.  It was also confirmed that he had high levels of Remeron and Lunesta in his system.  Remeron is an antidepressant and Lunesta is widely used for those who suffer from insomnia.

Kurt Cobain

Front man for the band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was a musician and singer of tremendous talent.  He was 27 years old when he passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  It was also confirmed that he had over 3x the lethal dose of heroin in his system.

Lucy Gordon

British actress Lucy Gordon, who portrayed reporter Jennifer Dugan in "Spiderman 3", committed suicide just two days before her 29th birthday. Lucy left two suicide notes before hanging herself in the Paris flat she shared with her cinematographer boyfriend, Almeras. Reportedly the couple had a tiff a night before and Almeras woke up to the scene of horror in morning.

Freddie E

The young Seattle rapper died from a self-inflicted rifle wound to the head. Known for his JerkTV series on YouTube, the rapper tweeted the moments leading up to his suicide. He posted the following: “If there’s a God then He’s calling me back home. This barrel never felt so good next to my dome. It’s cold & I’d rather die than live alone.” It is rumored he was heartbroken, and was formerly romantically involved with fellow rapper Honey coke.

Jiah Khan

Bollywood actor Jiah Khan, who worked in films like Nishabd, Ghajini and Haousefull, allegedly, committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence. Jiah was brought up in England and had shifted to Mumbai with her mother Rabiya.

Guru Dutt

Popular yesteryear actor filmmaker Guru Dutt’s death due to a lethal combination of sleeping pills in excessive liquor is still debated as suicide though his family maintains its was an accident. Guru Dutt was not on good terms with wife Geeta Dutt while Waheeda Rehman whom he was reportedly in love with had also distanced herself from him. Filmmaker Abrar Alvi who was conversing with Dutt on that night claims that he felt Guru Dutt was too dejected.

Viveka Babajee

Popular fashion model Viveka Babajee, who shot to fame with the Kamasutra condom advertisement in the 1990s, committed suicide in her Bandra flat on the night of June 25, 2010. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the hall. Apparently different reasons are being cited for her suicide from breakdown in professional career, failed love relationship to financial losses.

Nafisa Joseph

Tele-series CATS actor hanged herself in her Mumbai apartment a couple of years earlier. Nafisa who was also a VJ was to marry businessman Gautam Khanduja but it was called off after she learnt that he was already married. He had told her that he had been divorced for two years.
