What triggered Katrina Kaif to lose temper and write to media?

It’s the most talked about “love story” in Bollywood today. Ever since images of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s Spain holiday were splashed across the media, the obsession has only mounted.

Initial theories that were floated, following the photo leak, suggested it was Katrina’s PR team that had strategically posted those intimate holiday pictures so that her secret love affair found a more respectable identity.

In fact, some insiders even claimed it was Katrina’s way of letting Ranbir’s ex-lover Deepika Padukone know that she was out of the race.

Katrina was apparently insecure after the two ex-lovers received immense attention when their recent on-screen romance ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ hit the jackpot.

The rift was evident during the promotions of the movie, when Ranbir slowly, but strategically distanced himself from Deepika and evidently played it safe.

Soon enough, images of Katrina and Ranbir hanging out together started emerging. For the “lovers” who had safeguarded their little secret until then, this was peculiar.

The shift in exercise was deduced to the presence of Deepika and other pretty Bollywood babes (even, Anushka Sharma), who were “getting close” to the Kapoor lad.

Images of Katrina and Ranbir seated together in a car, heading to a B-towner’s party, was one of the first that hit the newsstands.

The media happily lapped it up.

Soon, their fans posted images of them together at airports in India and abroad.

This was followed by their party pics in Ibiza.

And within days, more intimate holiday pictures emerged, followed by more recent ones at the Sri Lanka airport.

The string of images rightly established that Ranbir and Katrina were more than just friends.

That was the lesson that Katrina had reportedly hoped everyone would learn. But when things didn’t go as per her plan, the lady started to panic.

Apparently, the bikini pics irked Ranbir’s actor-parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor.

Upset over how the Bollywood royalty might shun her for flaunting a “sexy image”, Katrina went into damage control.

The otherwise tight-lipped lady quickly penned a letter to The Times of India, claiming how she was deeply pained by the media’s “furtive and invasive behaviour”.

Insiders claimed this letter might have been her way of winning back Ranbir’s parents and displaying an image that’s very traditional.

Her allegations, however, have been openly criticized by the India media, who reasoned that the images were shot at a public beach, and not a private one.

Vikram Thapa, a prominent journalist, wrote, “Wearing a bikini on the beach is definitely better than wearing one on the cover of cosmopolitan….”

“If you’re THIS distressed, then here’s what the media should do. We shouldn’t publish any of your promotional pictures. We shouldn’t interview you closer to your film’s release or when you endorse a product. THEN, you can hold us responsible if we get into your house and click pictures. Isn’t that what invasive means in the first place?”

He even hinted that it was Katrina’s close aide who had informed the media about their holiday plans.

The journalist added that Ranbir and Katrina could probably learn a thing or two from Bollywood celeb couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

“They came out in the open about their relationship on the red carpet of a fashion week… that was more than five years ago. They have been on countless holidays since and we are sure more than one of them involved sporting the bikini. Not that we’ve seen the pictures.”

More media personalities replied to Katrina’s letter.

“Kats, you make yourself ‘accessible’ to the media only when a movie release is coming up, otherwise the poor reporters have to run around in circles to get that sound byte. And yes, if you have chosen to be a movie star, furtive and invasive journalism becomes par for course. Don’t like it? You can return to your quiet life back in London,” wrote Anil Thakraney for mxmindia.

Some reporters ever questioned her late reaction to the entire incident.

“The pictures appeared over a fortnight ago, but Katrina decided to react only now. Surely there were external forces at play,” reasoned a writer.

Whatever said and done, we know that there’s a certain tall, lanky actress sitting somewhere in Mumbai, watching the entire drama unfold and laughing her heart away.
