Whitney's picture in open casket creates furore

The National Enquirer cover page show Whitney in her coffin

The cover page of National Enquirer magazine this week carried a photo of what they say is Whitney Houston in her open casket prior to her funeral on Saturday.

The picture shows Whitney Houston in an open casket at the Whigham Funeral Home in New Jersey before her burial last weekend.

According to the Boyculture blog, the mag “is on sale on newsstands completely out in the open”.

The magazine claims the photo was taken at the Whigham Funeral Home in New Jersey, not at the church where the funeral service was held, reports fox.

The magazine somehow thought it was appropriate to put an unauthorized picture of the late singer’s dead body on every newsstand in America.

Whitney Houston, 48 years old, was found dead in the bath of her Beverly Hills hotel room on February 11.

Meanwhile, the cemetery Houston was laid to rest has been closed to the public indefinitely.

Officials at the Fairview Cemetery in New Jersey made the decision following a series of traffic problems resulting from grieving fans wanting to pay their respects to the singer, who was buried there on Sunday.

Police Captain Cliff Auchter said, “It’s a private property, and it’s up to them to make that decision. It was done in light of the overcrowding that occurred.

“The cemetery is a maze of very small roads, so if two cars come face to face, you have a Mexican standoff.”

Those with relatives buried in the cemetery will not be affected by the ban, and a round-the-clock police presence will remain in place for the forseeable future.

regardless of what her lifestyle she had we cant judge her because we all have done something its probably wasnt drugs but we all have done things that we dont want to be judged by. We have only one judge and thats God, so stop and take a look at yourself

It's a body of a superstar in a casket...not a huge deal. Just a body, and saying goodbye. Relax

She might have been an amazing singer, but, she was a horrible mother, a crackhead & a drunk. I saw pictures of the interior of her home when she was living with Bobby Brown and garbage was everywhere on the floor & dirty clothes - no furniture in a giant house, it was very weird. A crack addict CANNOT be a good ANYTHING. She died because she partied and took drugs for 2 days, and I read her daughter is a drug user too.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing is par for the course when you have your hand out for the money and you soak up the fame.

Early in the last century, it was quite common to take a photograph of the deceased in their coffin. My how times have changed.

I've read that the family is already going to auction off her belongings. The rumors must be true that she was broke.

Why couldn't they have blurred every picture of Whitney? Why not just photoshop her into oblivion and pretend she never existed.

    Anything to make a buck.

If people stopped buying The National Enquirer every time they did this, they would soon stop doing it.
