She’s come a long way since the debut disaster that was called Boom and has learned her lesson well. Today, Katrina Kaif is counted among the top leading ladies of Bollywood. Despite having a limited range of emotions on screen, she has managed to work with the best banners, top heroes and in some of the biggest blockbusters in recent times. With her latest film, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan receiving a good response from audiences and having a healthy opening weekend at the box office, Kat is the woman on top.

She is happy for Salman Khan’s success and unapologetic for expressing her feelings for him openly. Here, she talks about Salman, her career, relationships and marriage.

Excerpts:

On being successful

I have never done my job half-heartedly. I believe that when we give 100 per cent to our work, success is bound to follow.

On her films

After Boom I got a lot of offers to do C-class films, but I preferred to do modeling and run my household. I had decided that I will not do any such film which has nothing different to offer. Till date, I have never asked for work from anyone. When I got films like, Namastey London, New York, Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, I realised that good work is always valued in the industry.

On hard times

I sit alone at home and pray to God. I take advice from all my friends in the industry. I try to seek a way out of the problems.

On relationships

I want everyone’s love. And that’s the reason why I speak to everyone in a friendly way, from whatever little I know them. I give a lot of importance to my relationships and hence believe in giving others their space. I don’t like to unnecessarily break off old relations and make new ones.

On Salman Khan

I have been able to achieve this position in Bollywood because of Salman Khan. When I came to Mumbai, I knew no one. It was Salman who held my hand at that time. The media unnecessarily hypes our relationship. The truth is that Salman is nothing less than Godfather for me. Now, when Salman’s films are a hit, why can’t I express my happiness, be happy for Salman? I enjoyed the opportunity to do an item number in ‘Bodyguard’ with Salman Khan.

On marriage

I will not hide my marriage from anyone. At the moment, I am single and so busy with projects that I have no time to think about all this.

On her ideal life partner

Loyal, confident and one who has a great sense of humour.

On spending time by herself

These days, I have a lot of work. Whenever I get some time to myself, I like to dance and spend some more time in the gym doing my workout.

On her self

I am extremely simple. I don’t think I have changed after the name and fame that I have got.

On her habits

Since childhood, I have this habit of biting my lips which I still do. Even today, whenever I am alone or angry and I can’t express my anger, I start biting my lips!

BOX with KAT:

YRF and Kats on top

The good weekend opening of the Yash Raj film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (MBKD) has now set the pace for other films from Yash Chopra and team like Ek Tha Tiger and others to follow. By putting younger films under the ‘Y Films’ banner, the premier production house in the company decided to split the smaller ideas and keep them aloof so as to retain the brand identity of the giant like YRF.

MBKD opened at around Rs 25 crore in the opening weekend, which is fairly good seeing how other films from the banner have done in the recent past. The film has also given Katrina Kaif another hit this year after Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and put her back on the top slot, something Kareena Kapoor may not be able to achieve even if Ra.One is a blockbuster.

Ra.One cost around Rs. 150 crore and the film may have to gross a lot more to be called a hit.

Katrina’s entry and dialogues were whistled upon in the single screens – a clear indication that the audience loves her a lot never mind what the critics think of her deadpan expressions and the quaint movement of eyebrows and eyelashes at the drop of a hat.

Imran Khan again has a runaway hit after Delhi Belly. This has nothing to do with his abilities as an actor. He has been a part of two hits and he should be careful enough to pick films that will become hits even if he wants to challenge an actor like Ranbir Kapoor in the long run.
