Controversial host Willie Revillame has announced that his popular noontime variety show, ‘Wowowillie’, will have its last airing by mid-October as he has no plans to renew his contract with TV5.

“The last day of my contract is October 15,” he said, stunning his fans in the studio and viewers all over the Philippines yesterday. “Maybe October 12 is the last show of ‘Wowowillie’.”

Revillame’s decision is due to undisclosed personal reasons, according to media reports Wednesday, as the popular TV host stressed that he would then be taking a break from showbiz for a few months, a year or even longer.

“It’s not because I wanted to be sad,” he said in Filipino, as quoted by Yahoo! Philippines OMG! “Life’s like that, really. I also need time [for myself]. That’s all, in order to put a stop to some rumour…”

He was referring to talks going around tinsel town that TV5 would want to let go of him, as he had become swell headed and unreasonably demanding.

Revillame also said that he informed the TV5 management through a letter on May 17 of his intention to leave when his contract expires.

“We respect the decision of Mr Willie Revillame to retire upon the expiry of his contract with TV5,” the network management said in a statement to the media. “We wish him well in his new pursuits.”
