I believe [UAE] was right choice and am pleased others agreed: Cameron

UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Foreign Secretary William Hague and the UK Ambassador to the UAE Dominic Jermey have congratulated UAE on their success in being chosen to host the Expo 2020.

UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, said, "My congratulations to the people and Government of the UAE on their success in being chosen to host the Expo 2020. I believe this was the right choice and am pleased others agreed. Dubai's transformation into a global centre for transport, tourism and trade rightly inspires people to believe they can change their own countries for the better with vision, conviction and hard work. By hosting the Expo 2020, Dubai will remind the world that the Middle East is a vibrant region brimming with potential and is a source of innovation for generations past, present and future".

Foreign Secretary William Hague said, "Delighted that Dubai has been chosen to host Expo 2020 especially given the other strong contenders. But as I have said before, Dubai's bid stands out and does so for a number of reasons. Its position as a global hub, its dynamism as a city and as an exciting place for people to share their ideas and culture. Given the can-do attitude of Dubai as demonstrated by its extraordinary development, I have no doubt that Expo 2020 will be a hugely successful affair, and one which will show the world that the region is full of vision and human potential".

UK Ambassador to the UAE Dominic Jermey said, "This is a historic moment that Dubai and the whole of the UAE should be proud of for generations to come. My sincere congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the people of the UAE on this well deserved success. Dubai reminds the world once again that the Middle East is a region of dynamism, innovation and human potential. We in the United Kingdom take pride in backing Dubai's bid to host the 2020 Expo all the way. Just ten days ago, Prime Minister David Cameron reiterated his strong public support for Dubai's bid when he met with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Zabeel Palace.

"I have seen in the city where I was born the transformational way the London 2012 Olympics has inspired a generation and I am certain the Dubai Expo 2020 will do the same here. In the last 50 years, Dubai has become the one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities and a global centre for transport, tourism and trade with the spectacular terminals of Jebel Ali and Dubai Airport. Many projects in these areas are testimony to the business partnership the both UK and the UAE have together".

Al Zayani expressed his confidence that organising the world Expo in Dubai will be greatly successful thanks the UAE's preparation of plans and projects that meet the requirements of hosting such global mega events.

The GCC secretary general extended his warm congratulations and felicitations to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the UAE people on the UAE's success in being chosen to host the world Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Gérard Collomb, Senator-Mayor of Lyon and President of Greater Lyon

I woud like to extend my warmest congratulations to the Dubai authorities and their partners, whose bid showed the energy, originality and ambition which will allow Dubai to host the World Expo 2020 with great success. I am particularly pleased because Lyon has been a partner city of Dubai for several years.

Philippe Grillot, President of the Lyon Chamber of Commerce

The official delegation that I led in Dubai just recently, which was composed of a number of local stakeholders (Greater Lyon, CCI, the Development Agency and around 20 companies), was able to initiate a number of cooperation projects which will allow Lyon to contribute to this major project for Dubai and the people of the Emirates. There are many Lyon-based institutions and businesses that will be ready to place their unique know-how at Dubai’s service in order to contribute to the success of the World Expo 2020.
