The Federal National Council (FNC) named members of its permanent human rights committee.
The formation of the seven-member body delivers an important message to the international community and organisations that both the State and house pay greater attention to human rights issue.
The move will empower the house committees in addressing public policy issues given the fact that the State meets essential needs of citizens from health, housing to education and modern services.
The committee will follow up recommendations and resolutions issued by regional and international parliamentary unions regarding human rights.
It will also provide technical and legal advice to other house committees on bills regarding economic, social and cultural rights as most bills on education, health, housing and development deal with these rights.
Earlier, the FNC approved the setting up of a permanent committee on human rights to discuss potential rights issues pertaining to legislations and reinforce the UAE's domestic and international efforts to protect human rights.
The FNC said the committee assumes a critical role in view of the international and regional conventions ratified by the UAE.
