With the holiday season fast nearing, residents are advised to register with the Dubai Police home security service before making travel plans.

Dubai Police received 289 cases of house burglaries in 2015, according to a top official.

This is, however, a decrease from 333 in 2014.

Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police, said security programmes have helped reduce robberies and thefts, which has been a concern of families when they travel.

Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police, Criminal Investigation Affairs, also confirmed that the phenomenon has significantly reduced compared to previous years.

According to Dubai Police statistics, a total of 333 home burglaries were reported in 2014 - a four per cent increase from 321 in 2013, of which 197 were in villas, 14 in traditional houses, and 122 in apartments.

The modus operandi of thieves usually included jumping over fences of homes and breaking doors to steal jewellery and money.

Nationalities and Age

Dubai Police statistics reveal most of the gangs involved in such robberies were Asians, Africans, Europeans and Latin Americans and police have so far successfully arrested 430 suspects.

Among the arrested, some were teenagers and 13 below 18 years of age.

Home Security Service
