Bus services will be suspended around Iftar time and in some cases around Suhour time as well in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain during the month of Ramadan, the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT) announced in a media statement today.

In Abu Dhabi city, bus services will be suspended from 6.30pm-8.30pm and again from 3.30am-5.30am. In Al Ain, bus services are suspended from 6.30pm-8.30pm, while in the Western Region the services will resume half an hour earlier with a suspension period between 6.30pm-8pm.

In the meantime, free bus services will be operated to and from Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, in support of the Iftar project organised in the mosque.

Every day the mosque provides 20,000 free Iftar meals for those who find it difficult to afford a meal at the end of their fast.

To enable fasters to reach to location 30 buses have been allocated transferring passengers for free from Abu Dhabi suburbs to the mosque and back.

Buses will depart from three locations towards Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from 4pm-6.45pm, as follows:

· From the Industrial City (ICAD) in Musaffah: 20 buses.

· From Workers Village (Musaffah): 5 buses.

· From Al-Mafraq Workers City: 5 buses.

Buses will depart from Sheikh Zayed Grand mosque returning to same locations after Iftar starting from 7:45pm until 9pm daily.

Mohamed Nasser Al Otaiba, Acting General Manager of the Bus Office at DoT, explained that this initiative comes to facilitate mobility of worshippers during Iftar and prayer times, while minimising traffic congestion and avoiding illegally parked vehicles in the areas surrounding the mosque.

Park and Ride services have also been amended for the month of Ramadan, with the express shuttle operating from 7am-5pm daily.

The Park and Ride service enables motorists to park near the entrance of Abu Dhabi City at Zayed Sport City, where express shuttles transport them further into Abu Dhabi City.
